At the age of 13, I received an unexpected gift from my neighbour, his Canon FT 35mm camera, starting a love affair with the world of photography. As I grew up I continued to take photos of all sorts from portraits of friends to holidays and action sports like surfing but always among them was my favourite genre, landscapes.
Later as a teacher, when taking kids on school camps I was always in awe of being out in the bush and the beauty it displayed with its different lighting and colour. However, the kids didn't seem to understand my excitement and I felt they were missing out, so I started to record these moments on film and later on digital media. Maybe one day they would realise and finally take time to look beyond the obvious.
Today the opportunities are endless as I enjoy what the local area provides with it’s amazing coastline and picturesque hinterland landscapes and at the same time I can continue to record these fantastic images for others to enjoy.
Recently I've expanded my experiences by travelling to other parts of our amazing world, opening my eyes to some incredible photographic opportunities. I certainly hope you can all continue to enjoy what I can provide "Through My Eyes". “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” — Aaron Siskind
